Our purpose
Masks for Mates was set up by concerned individuals from various backgrounds to help link volunteers who are making free handmade cloth utility face masks to organisations and individuals in the community who needed them.
What we aim to do
- To match requests from organisations and individuals for reusable cloth utility face masks with local volunteer groups and individuals able to meet these needs
- To connect volunteers and community groups to donated or reduced cost material suppliers
- To help with distribution of reusable cloth utility face masks where we can
- To free up and encourage the donation of personal protective equipment (PPE) to health care workers working with patients who have tested positive for Covid-19
How we are doing this
We have established a national database to link volunteers and requesters. We seek to expand our network with local groups across the country working on similar projects.
We are not funded or paid. Donations are used to cover material and delivery costs.
We are working to link community sewing groups and cloth mask makers across the country willing to supply cloth utility face masks for free to organisations needing them.
We are aligned with the charity Sewing for Charities Australia whose CEO is one of our founding coordinators. Any donations to Masks for Mates are processed through the charity and will go towards covering postage costs and materials.
Our group is entirely run by volunteers.
